Tourism Funding Awarded to Williamsport’s Historic Bowman Field

Along with State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-83) and Williamsport City Mayor Derek Slaughter, I am pleased to announce $750,000 has been awarded to the city through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Sports Marketing and Tourism Program.

Funding will help support the 2025 Little League Baseball World Series and Major League Baseball (MLB) ‘Little League Classic’ game held at Williamsport’s historic Bowman Field by making needed capital infrastructure improvements. Equally important, the funding will benefit the Williamsport Crosscutters organization, a member of the MLB Draft League, which plays at the stadium each year from late May until mid-August, along with the Pennsylvania College of Technology Wildcats baseball team.

Each year, Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability (PAR) recognizes individuals from around the state who excel in specific categories, either as a Direct Support Professional, employer or a self-advocate. This year, Tammie Bonhamer of Wyalusing was recognized as Job Coach of the Year. Nick Troutman, my chief of staff, presented Tammie with a Senate Citation in honor of her award. Congratulations, Tammie!

PDE Rescinds Culturally Relevant and Sustaining Education Guidelines

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) recently rescinded its Culturally-Relevant and Sustaining Education (CRSE) guidelines as part of a settlement with several western Pennsylvania school districts, teachers and parents, who said the guidelines were imposed illegally.

Under the settlement reached last week, PDE agreed to notify all K-12 schools that they have “no legal obligation to implement or comply” with the “Culturally Relevant and Sustaining Education” guidelines. The department will instead issue “Common Ground Framework” guidelines and school districts will be contacted in the coming days about the new framework.

New One-Stop Grant Search Tool to Streamline Pennsylvanians’ Access to Funding Opportunities

The Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience (CODE PA) recently launched a new resource on PA.gov that makes it easier for residents, businesses, non-profits, schools and local governments to find and apply to grant programs from state agencies.

The new discovery tool allows users to search for, sort, and filter information about grants based on the type of applicant (business, individual, non-profit, public agency, school, etc.), category, application deadline, location, and other criteria. The search results include links to each program, including information on who the funding is intended for, the application process, key dates and deadlines, eligibility criteria, and where to apply.

Senate Republicans Organize for 2025-26 Session

Voters returned a 28-22 Republican majority to the state Senate for the 2025-26 legislative session. All Republican incumbents were re-elected and two new Republican senators are on the way to Harrisburg.

To drive priorities of protecting jobs, empowering families and defending freedoms, Senate Republicans re-elected our leadership team for the upcoming session.

Senate Republicans are united in our efforts to prioritize the needs of Pennsylvanians. We remain focused on helping families restore economic freedom while positioning communities to thrive. Increasing energy independence, expanding access to well-paying jobs and making communities healthy and safer are top initiatives in our work to move Pennsylvania forward.

Giving First Responders More Support

Beginning in December, a law passed by Senate Republicans will give first responders greater access to workers’ compensation benefits for a post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI).

Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and paramedics will be entitled to benefits for psychological traumas resulting from their employment – even in the absence of physical injuries. To receive benefits, they need to be diagnosed by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.

Previously, Pennsylvania law required a first responder to prove there were “objective abnormal working conditions” to establish a PTSI claim. This standard was often difficult to meet.

Shooting Ranges Open to the Public

Whether you’re a hunter preparing for rifle season or would simply like to maintain your shooting skills for self-defense, you can take aim at a public shooting range.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission offers recreation opportunities at public rifle, pistol, archery and shotgun ranges on 40 state game lands throughout the state. It constructed or renovated more than a dozen public shooting ranges this year alone, with plans to upgrade more.

You must possess an annual shooting range permit or a current general hunting or furtaker license to use the public shooting ranges. Find a shooting range near you.
