Nearly $11 Million in Funding Secured for the 23rd DistrictAlong with my colleagues from the House of Representatives, I am pleased to announce $10,750,000 has been awarded to projects throughout the 23rd District through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). Among the awards was $5,000,000 for the Lycoming Career and Technology Center to make much needed renovations and upgrades to their current facility. Mansfield Borough was also awarded $500,000 for critical flood mitigation efforts. You can read more on each of the projects awarded funding HERE: Yaw, Flick Announce $3,500,000 Awarded in Lycoming County Yaw, Hamm Announce $6,750,000 Awarded in Lycoming County Yaw, Owlett Announce $500,000 Awarded to Mansfield Borough Celebrating a $2 Million Investment in Williamsport’s Genetti HotelI was joined last week by Gus Genetti, owner of Williamsport’s historical Genetti Hotel, Phil Murray, general manager, and architect Tony Visco to celebrate a $2 million investment for hotel renovations. The Genetti Hotel, originally named the Lycoming Hotel, was built in 1921. It is currently home to guest rooms, a conference center and banquet and meeting facilities. Plans for renovations include updates to guest rooms and exterior masonry work. The Genetti Hotel is a cornerstone of Williamsport’s history and a centerpiece for visitors in our region. By renovating this historic building, we are helping to boost tourism and support local businesses. I am incredibly proud to have worked to secure funding for this important investment in downtown Williamsport. Annual Breakfast Meeting on AgricultureOn Thursday, I hosted my annual “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture” with nearly 125 participants representing agriculture and agribusiness in Lycoming, Union and Sullivan counties. Held at the Today Farm in Muncy, attendees included Secretary Russell Redding of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, farmers, agribusiness professionals, 4-H members, Montgomery and Montoursville FFA students, dairy and county fair royalty, teachers and elected officials. Hayley Painter, co-founder and co-CEO of Painterland Sisters Organic Skyr Yogurt, served as guest speaker for the event. We also recognized Wylie Norton of Forksville, who was recently honored as the 2024 Conservationist of the Year by the Sullivan County Conservation District. Thank you to all of our attendees and volunteers for joining us this year to help highlight important issues facing the industry. Tour of Today Farm and Susquehanna MillsFollowing the breakfast, we joined owner Josh Leidhecker for a tour of Today Farm and Susquehanna Mills. Part working farm, part farm store and farmers market site, Today Farm has a 50-year history in Lycoming County. Susquehanna Mills, founded in 2006, has evolved from a supplier of bio-diesel to a manufacturer of quality Canola and Sunflower cooking oils whose top priority is sustainability. They practice Full Circle manufacturing, wherein waste oil from their restaurant and university partners is upcycled into biodiesel, which powers many of their farm partners’ vehicles. Thank you for having us! Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Holds Legislative BreakfastPhoto Credit: Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce On Friday, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce held their annual Morning Member Connection Legislative Breakfast. I joined Rep. Jamie Flick and Rep. Joe Hamm to give a legislative update on what we’re working on in Harrisburg. It was great to connect with so many chamber members and local business owners and to hear about the issues most important to them! PA Families to Receive More Support Saving for the FutureBecause of a bill Senate Republicans passed, families saving for educational expenses and costs for those with disabilities could soon have more support from their employers. A tax credit will encourage employers to contribute to their employees’ PA 529 College and Career Savings Program accounts and PA ABLE accounts. Beginning January 2025, employers will receive a 25% tax credit on matching employer contributions of up to $500 per employee per year. The law helps employers offer their employees a significant benefit so they can attract the best workers while receiving a financial incentive themselves. It supports Senate Republicans’ priorities of empowering Pennsylvania families and protecting Pennsylvania jobs. Bill Giving Parents Info About Student Tick Removal Now LawLegislation giving parents the opportunity to access important information about their child’s health was approved by the Senate and is now law. It requires schools to notify a parent or guardian if a tick is removed from a student and provide the tick to them for testing. When discovering a tick on yourself, a family member or a pet, it’s important to send it to the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab at East Stroudsburg University. For free, the tick can be tested for common illnesses to provide you and your health care provider with valuable information about potential exposure. For more than a decade, Pennsylvania has had more cases of Lyme disease than any other state in the nation. While Lyme disease is reason enough to take precautions, ticks also carry a host of other illnesses with undesirable symptoms.
