REMINDER: Report Damage from Recent Flooding

These damage reports will help to provide information for eligibility for potential state and federal disaster assistance.

Save the Date!

Rep. Joe Hamm and I will host our annual FREE Senior Expo on September 19th at Community Baptist Church.

This event includes door prizes, health screenings, and refreshments. Over 75 exhibitors from government agencies and non-profit organizations will be on hand! We encourage all seniors and their caretakers to come gather information and take advantage of these essential services.

Update from Harrisburg

Legislation I sponsored with Sen. Nick Miller to expand the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) was included in the 2024-25 state budget. The cap on the allocation for the NAP program is now set to be raised from $36 million to $72 million in the coming fiscal year.

The NAP allows businesses, communities and organizations to work together to revitalize our neighborhoods and improve access to job opportunities, quality education and affordable housing. Read more HERE.

As chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, I will soon introduce legislation to establish a Pennsylvania Baseload Energy Development Fund. The fund would provide low-interest grants and loans to finance the construction, maintenance, modernization and operation of electric generation facilities.

Pennsylvania alone supplies nearly 25% of baseload electric generation capacity to the grid. We must play a more active role in incentivizing generation and addressing looming reliability challenges with market-based solutions. The Pennsylvania Baseload Energy Development Fund can help us supply the grid with reliable, cost-effective energy, as well as the infrastructure and workforce to maintain it. Read more HERE.

On the Road…

On Tuesday, members of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee joined me for a tour of Lackawanna Energy Center, a combined cycle natural gas plant owned by Invenergy.

Located in Jessup, Pennsylvania, the Lackawanna facility is the largest operational project in Invenergy’s fleet. It is one of the largest natural gas-fired plants in the United States, the largest in Pennsylvania and features an innovative single-shaft turbine that helps optimize flexibility to respond quickly to variations in energy demand.

The Northeast Bradford Memorial VFW Post 6824 Auxiliary’s annual picnic was held at its Pike Township Building on Saturday.

I was honored to be among the Veterans from across the region who received certificates recognizing their service from Rep. Tina Pickett, VFW Commander Pete Miller, Auxiliary President Anne Eastabrook and Bradford County Commissioner Daryl Miller.

The annual East/West Bradford County Council of Governments meeting was held on Monday, bringing together residents and local officials from across the region. We had a great discussion on local issues and what’s happening in Harrisburg.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has donated access to its standards for industry best practices to Penn College for use in the curriculums of various academic programs in the college’s School of Engineering Technologies.

As chairman of the Penn College Board of Directors, I was in attendance as the standards were formally accepted. Access will help to equip students with the training they need for a competitive advantage in the oil and natural gas industry. Thank you to API for recognizing the incredible work Penn College and its students are doing!

Rumors About Changes to State Vehicle Inspection Requirements Untrue

Recently, rumors have been circulating about Pennsylvania doing away with annual inspection requirements for personal vehicles. These rumors are untrue and likely stem from recent actions taken in other states. No such legislation has been introduced or passed in Pennsylvania.

Financial Assistance is Available to Struggling Veterans

Sometimes the people who defended our country fall on hard times and need a little help. Veterans who are experiencing unforeseen circumstances causing a financial burden can benefit from the Veterans Temporary Assistance (VTA) Program.

The VTA provides temporary financial assistance of up to $1,600 in a 12-month period to veterans or their surviving spouses who reside in Pennsylvania for basic necessities like food, shelter, fuel and clothing.

Eligibility guidelines are available here. Veterans interested in applying for a VTA grant should contact their county director of Veterans Affairs.

Celebrating Pennsylvania’s Workforce on Labor Day

Millions of men and women who are members of Pennsylvania’s workforce keep our economy chugging along. Their hard work benefits communities all across the state and country.

On Labor Day, I recognize their accomplishments and wish them some well-deserved relaxation.
