BREAKING: Yaw, Owlett Announce PENNVEST Funding for Westfield BoroughEarlier today, Rep. Clint Owlett and I were pleased to announce a $957,846 state investment allocated to Westfield Borough, Tioga County through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for the replacement of its Church Street sewer pipe. This project will improve the reliability and performance of the sanitary sewer system, prevent future sinkholes due to current structural deficiencies, and reduce operational and maintenance costs at the wastewater treatment plant. I had the pleasure of joining Sen. Nick Miller and Christine M. Martin, president of PPL Electric Utilities for a tour of Pennsylvania College of Technology (PCT) where I serve as chairman of the Board of Directors. We visited the construction, electrical, machining, welding, collision repair and automated manufacturing labs and learned about the Clean Energy Center, architecture and sustainable design majors, and the upcoming Baja SAE international competition. Thank you to President Reed for another great visit! I had a great afternoon with Students from Wellsboro High School at their Student Government Day. We had a great discussion on state government and the legislative and political processes. These students certainly have a bright future ahead of them! Meeting with Lumber Heritage Region, Lycoming County Visitors BureauThank you to Holly Komonczi from Lumber Heritage Region and Gina Edwards from the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau for stopping by my office to share some new reading materials and discuss how the two groups are working together on lumber issues in our region. City of Williamsport Spring Cleanup UnderwayThe City of Williamsport’s annual 2024 Spring Cleanup will run now through Friday, May 10, 2024. Residents may put out yard debris for collection, with all materials placed along the curb line. Yard debris ONLY – limbs, leaves, plant, and shrub clippings. Absolutely no grass clippings. For additional information or questions, residents may contact the Streets & Parks Department at 570-326-4684. May Consumer Financial Protection Events AnnouncedEducation and outreach staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS) will be hosting and participating in numerous presentations for groups of senior citizens, service providers and the public throughout the month of March to promote financial capability and provide investor education. Saturday is National Drug Take-Back DayThe next “National Drug Take – Back Day,” sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be held this Saturday, April 27 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents living throughout Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Union, and Tioga counties are encouraged to participate by taking back expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Safe disposal drop-off locations are located in every county and can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Program’s website. DCNR Online Outdoor Recreation SurveyThe Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn today encouraged Pennsylvanians to share their outdoor interests and activities in a 10-minute, online survey that will assist with developing the state’s next outdoor recreation plan. DCNR is working with experts across the state to develop the next Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (2025-2029), which will help to guide future recreation investments, policies and facilities. The survey is available in English and Spanish and is completely confidential. The deadline to complete the survey is May 22. |
