Farm Show EditionThis week’s special edition E-Newsletter highlights the 109th Pennsylvania Farm Show, held at the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. The PA Farm Show is the nation’s largest indoor agricultural exposition and showcases agriculture and all who make it Pennsylvania’s #1 industry. It was great to connect with attendees, exhibitors and competitors last week, including many from right here in the 23rd District. If you know someone in the agriculture industry, please forward this issue onto them. Local Organizations Visit PA Farm ShowIt was great to see so many familiar faces at this year’s farm show! Students from Canton Future Farmers of America (FFA) set up a fantastic landscape exhibit this year. It was a pleasure to meet Keystone Degree recipient, Tyler Engel of Trout Run, and his family. The Keystone is the fourth highest of five degrees an FFA member can receive. Northeast Bradford FFA took home the award for “Most Improved” for their efforts in restoring a 70-year-old garden tractor. Additionally, Ben Neiley received his Keystone Degree. Congratulations and well done! Congratulations to Mason Smith from Lewisburg who received a Farm Show Scholarship Award at this year’s Farm Show! Matt Osenbach of my Harrisburg Office was on hand to present Mason with a celebratory Senate certificate. The Lycoming County farm of Adam and Shannan Kinley, owned and operated by the Kinley family since 1904, was recognized as a Pennsylvania Century Farm. Adam and Shannan are the latest generation to manage the farm, which is now a beef and row crop operation. The family also maintains the Grove Cemetery, a historical site dating back to Samuel Kinley’s original purchase. Shapiro, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary, Russell Redding and representatives from all across the agriculture industry at the Farm Show Public Officials Luncheon. This event provides a great opportunity to connect with farmers, agricultural support organizations, industry members and other officials from state and federal government. Many local officials were on hand, as well, including Sullivan County Commissioner Darlene Fenton. We had a productive discussion on the challenges the agriculture industry currently faces and opportunities for future growth.
