Yaw Announces Local Investments in Agricultural Innovation

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced two local businesses have received funding through the nation’s first Agricultural Innovation Grant Program.

“Funding from this first-of-its-kind program will give our local farmers and agribusinesses access to cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to enhance their operations and increase efficiency,” Yaw said. “I’m pleased to see this significant state investment in our region’s agriculture sector.”

Union County’s A.M. Logging was awarded $500,000 to advance hardwood processing capabilities. Additionally, Wheeland Lumber Company in Lycoming County was awarded $100,000 to implement Artificial Intelligence – based grading technology.

“We are honored to have our project selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture,” said Wes Miller of A.M. Logging. “This project will produce a unique forest product that will benefit the plant, poultry and livestock growers of our state while improving the silviculture of Penn’s Woods.”

The Agricultural Innovation Grant is distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The program helps farmers and other agriculture businesses implement new agricultural technologies, conservation and renewable energy innovations – expanding their potential to generate profits, enrich soil and water resources and produce energy on the farm.
