HARRISBURG – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) today announced $125,000 has been awarded to the Borough of Elkland through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.
“Funding for this project will undoubtedly benefit our region and have a positive impact on recreational opportunities,” Yaw said. “I am pleased to see this important investment in Tioga County and I’m grateful to Rep. Owlett for his collaboration.”
“Our region has so much to offer in the great outdoors, and this project will provide even more opportunities for the people of Elkland and the surrounding areas to enjoy some fun and fresh air,” Owlett said. “I was happy to work with Sen. Yaw in support of this investment in our residents’ quality of life.”
The funding awarded today will support the Borough’s Coates Avenue Recreation Facilities project. The Borough plans to acquire land and conduct preliminary engineering toward creating a swimming and recreating facility. The site is planned to have an ADA-accessible swimming pool, kid safe pool, bathhouse, park office, meeting room, Little League fields and an ADA-accessible playground.
The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs. In 2012, the Marcellus Legacy Fund was created and directed natural gas drilling monies to the CFA for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects using the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP).
