Yaw, Owlett Announce PENNVEST Funding for Elkland Borough Authority

HARRISBURG – State. Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) today announced a $1,863,730 state investment awarded to Elkland Borough Authority through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant.

Funding awarded today will be used to install two new influent pump stations, new blowers, a new generator and a new control system. Additionally, the project includes aeration, effluent monitoring and dewatering upgrades, as well as several safety improvements to the facility.

“As we look at the aging infrastructure of many of our local communities, it has never been more important to support their efforts to improve water quality through better systems,” Yaw said. “Elkland Borough’s water system needs significant upgrades and this funding will ensure safe, potable drinking water for years to come.”

“Ensuring the proper handling and treatment of wastewater is vital to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for the residents of Elkland and the surrounding areas,” Owlett said. “This investment in upgrading our infrastructure is an important investment in the quality of life for our communities.”

Yaw and Owlett noted the existing system serves nearly 830 residential customers and funding for these upgrades will help curb future rate increases for consumers.

“The Elkland Borough Authority is much appreciative of the continued support for this funding,” said June Woodard, chairwoman of the Elkland Borough Authority and the Elkland Borough Council Water and Sewer Committee. “This award will allow us to make much-needed infrastructure improvements and greatly reduce the financial burden placed on the Authority and its customers.”

PENNVEST was established by Act 16 of 1988 and is an independent agency of the Commonwealth providing financial assistance to fund the construction of drinking water, sewer, and stormwater projects in communities throughout Pennsylvania.
