Yaw Announces Over $500,000 Awarded in Union County

HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced $530,000 has been awarded to two projects in Union County. The funding was considered and approved at today’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting in Harrisburg.

Lewisburg Area School District’s Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School was awarded $500,000 for a roof replacement through the Authority’s Public School Facility Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program. The roof on the 60-year-old single building is reaching the end of its service life and is leaking.

“It is critical that we support efforts to improve aging infrastructure in many of our local schools, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades,” Yaw said. “The funding approved today will be incredibly impactful for the school.”

Additionally, Buffalo Township Municipal Sewer Authority was awarded $30,000 through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program. Funding will be used for the purchase of a pick-up truck that will transport personnel, haul equipment, make deliveries, plow snow and perform other necessary maintenance. The new truck will replace the Township’s 1994 pick-up.

“The funding approved today is a valuable investment that will help Buffalo Township make much-needed upgrades to their maintenance equipment,” Yaw added. “I’m proud to have worked to secure this important funding.”

The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG) provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The Program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the CFA.

The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs.  The CFA reviews and evaluates applications based on cost, strategic importance, and impact.
