HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced $5,193,728 in state funding has been awarded to 15 various projects across Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union Counties through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
The awards were considered at today’s CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority’s Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS), the Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Water Projects Program (H2O), and the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program (PACR).
“The funds approved today are valuable investments that are good for our citizens and good for our region,” Sen. Yaw said. “I was pleased to advocate for this funding and work with my colleagues in the General Assembly and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”
Among the largest awards was the Williamsport Sanitary Authority, which received $3,000,000 in H2O funding for its Sanitary Sewer Bloomingrove Road Environmental Protection Project. The Borough of Mifflinburg also received $500,000 in H2O funding for its Water System Reliability Improvements Project.
“Funding for these critical water and sewer projects benefit the residents of Williamsport with improvements to essential public infrastructure which is used by all on a daily basis,” Michael Miller, Williamsport Sanitary Authority and Municipal Water Authority Executive Director, said. “The Authority appreciates Sen. Yaw’s advocacy.”
“The Borough of Mifflinburg appreciates the support that Sen. Yaw’s office has provided for the Borough’s CFA application,” Margaret Metzger, Mifflinburg Borough Manager, said. “These funds will help the Borough complete some vital improvements to the water distribution system, improving service to the Borough’s customers.”
The remaining projects include:
Bradford County
- Towanda Municipal Authority – $495,142 in SWS funding for North Main Street Sewer improvements.
- Bradford County Regional Arts Council – $30,651 in PACR funding for Performing Arts Organization programs and marketing.
Lycoming County
- Williamsport Sanitary Authority – $423,725 in SWS funding for its Bull Run Pump Station Safety Improvements Project.
- Muncy Borough Municipal Authority – $125,000 in SWS funding for Broadway Street water line upgrades.
- Lycoming County Historical Society – $16,818 in PACR funding for the History Museum or Historical Site located in the City of Williamsport.
Sullivan County
- Eagles Mere Borough Authority – $51,000 in SWS funding for Forest Inn Wastewater Treatment Facility sanitary sewer improvements.
Tioga County
- Elkland Borough – $260,000 in SWS funding for its Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project.
- Deane Center for the Performing Arts Inc. – $17,385 in PACR funding for the Performing Arts Organization.
- Endless Mountain Music Festival – $12,517 in PACR funding for the Performing Arts Organization.
Union County
- West Buffalo Township – $150,000 in SWS funding to upgrade existing water meters and two pump stations.
- Gregg Township Municipal Authority – $90,000 in SWS funding for its Wastewater Treatment Plant Equipment Upgrade.
- Lewisburg Children’s Museum – $11,490 in PACR funding for the Children’s Museum.
- Susquehanna Valley Chorale – $10,000 in PACR funding for the Performing Arts Organization.
The grants are funded from multiple sources with the largest being federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money appropriated for recreation and conservation as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.
