Yaw, Owlett Host Wellsboro Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture Featuring Keynote Discussion by Agriculture Secretary

Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding address attendees at the 2023 Tioga County “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture” hosted by Yaw and Owlett.

HARRISBURG, PA – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) hosted their annual “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture” this week with nearly 150 participants representing agriculture and agribusiness in Tioga County.  

Held at the Tioga County Fair Grounds, attendees consisting of farmers, agribusiness professionals, 4-H members, Grand Canyon and Southern Tioga FFA students, dairy royalty, teachers, and elected officials heard from Yaw and Owlett, as well as featured speaker Russell Redding, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

“Each year, the discussion is intended to create a friendly dialogue and exchange of ideas on important agricultural and environmental topics impacting our region,” Sen. Yaw said.  “The meeting is also designed to listen to concerns and answer questions. I am thankful to Rep. Owlett for his partnership on this event and I am glad Secretary Redding was able to join us this year and highlight many important issues facing agriculture.”

“Our Commonwealth and our region are blessed by the men and women who work so hard in the fields and barns to help put food on our tables,” Rep. Owlett said. “I appreciate them taking the time to share their questions and concerns so we can work together as policymakers to support our farmers and all who work in the agriculture industry. It was an honor to co-host this breakfast with Sen. Yaw, and I am thankful to Secretary Redding for make the trip for this important discussion.”

“Senator Yaw has long been a champion of farmers, and state funding for conservation measures that are critical to clean water and healthy soil for our future,” Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. “I appreciate Representative Owlett’s service on the House Agriculture Committee and both legislators’ partnership, and I am pleased to join them to represent the Shapiro Administration in addressing questions and concerns that are close to home in this region and across Pennsylvania.”

Redding was first nominated by former Governor Ed Rendell to head the department. He was most recently re-confirmed on May 10, 2023.  

The day’s discussion also touched on several legislative proposals pending before the state Senate, which focus on water quality, stream maintenance, and environmental improvements.
