Yaw, Owlett Announce Local Investments in Agricultural Innovation

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) today announced two Tioga County businesses have received funding through the nation’s first Agricultural Innovation Grant Program.

“Funding from this first-of-its-kind program will give our local farmers and agribusinesses access to cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to enhance their operations and increase efficiency,” Yaw said. “I’m pleased to see this significant state investment in our region’s agriculture sector.”

“Agriculture is such an important part of our history and heritage, but it is an equally important part of our future,” Owlett said. “Technology has created a lot of opportunities for our farmers and agribusiness leaders, and I’m excited to see some of our local innovators receive these well-earned investments from the Commonwealth.”

Tioga County’s multi-generational Painterland Farms, which founded Painterland Sisters Organic Skyr Yogurt in 2020, received $475,000 for its Regenerative Farming Innovations project through the legislative support.

Additionally, Woodland Biomass Innovations was awarded $50,000 for the site planning of a biomass-to-fuel facility. The pilot plant will utilize carbon that is already part of the natural cycle to produce gasoline that works with existing cars and distribution infrastructure.

The Agricultural Innovation Grant is distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The program helps farmers and other agriculture businesses implement new agricultural technologies, conservation, and renewable energy innovations – expanding their potential to generate profits, enrich soil and water resources, and produce energy on the farm.
