HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Tina Pickett (R-110) today announced $2,194,211 has been awarded to community improvement and economic development projects in Bradford County. The funding was considered and approved at today’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting in Harrisburg.
“The awards announced today will be incredibly impactful for our communities by funding important economic development, infrastructure, public safety and recreation projects,” Yaw said. “Many of these improvements are desperately needed due to aging infrastructure, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades. I’m thankful to Rep. Pickett for working with me to secure this funding.”
“Limited budgets often make it difficult for small municipalities to purchase much-needed equipment or undertake important infrastructure projects,” Pickett said. “That’s why state funding support is critical in helping local officials provide basic municipal services to their residents.”
The following projects received funding through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program:
- Wysox Township Municipal Authority – Pump Station No. 5 Rehabilitation – $672,600.
- Towanda Borough – Third Ward Playground Improvements – $586,350
- Towanda Borough – Borough Equipment and K9 Vehicle Purchase – $400,000
- Towanda Municipal Authority – Burlington Turnpike Water Line Replacement – $200,000
- Wyalusing Municipal Authority – Vehicle and Equipment Purchase – $170,596
- New Albany Borough – Sidewalk and Drainage Reconstruction – $164,665
“We want to express our appreciation for Sen. Yaw and Rep. Pickett’s advocacy for the Towanda Borough,” said Stacy Schoonover, Borough Manager. “This funding will provide much needed upgrades to maintenance equipment, repair critical infrastructure and improve recreational facilities, all of which will enhance the quality of live for Towanda’s residents.”
“The grant funding for the Wysox Township Municipal Authority’s Pump Station No. 5 will support necessary sanitary sewer wet well repairs, new pumps, installation of a backup generator and new electrical controls, as well as new fencing and paving to improve the safety and function of the pump station,” said Robert Williams, Wysox Township Municipal Authority Chairman. “This addresses a critical infrastructure need of the Authority. We appreciate the support of Sen. Gene Yaw and Rep. Tina Pickett for their commitment to Authority customers.”
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs. The CFA reviews and evaluates applications based on cost, strategic importance, and impact.
