Area Legislators to Host State Services & Veteran Recognition Day July 20

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), along with State Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84) and State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-83), invite constituents and local veterans to join them for a State Services and Veteran Recognition Day on Saturday, July 20th in Williamsport.

The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rear parking lot of Yaw’s Williamsport District Office at 175 Pine Street.

Special guest, State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, and her staff will be available for the duration of the event to provide unclaimed property services for constituents. The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will also be present with their Mobile Veterans’ Outreach Van to provide services to veterans. Additionally, legislative host offices will have information on existing state services and will be providing some limited services on the day of the event.

“Navigating state government services and veterans’ benefits can be overwhelming,” Yaw said. “This event will help constituents and veterans get the assistance they need, while also raising awareness of unclaimed property sitting in the Treasury’s vault and returning it to its rightful owners. I look forward to connecting with attendees and I’m grateful to my colleagues for joining me in hosting this event.”

“I am pleased to host State Services & Veteran Recognition Day with Sen. Gene Yaw and Rep. Jamie Flick,” Hamm said. “Helping our veterans navigate the complicated and often complex world of veterans’ benefits is one of my top priorities. We always need to ensure our veterans receive the benefits and assistance they earned through their service to our great nation.”

“I am thankful for the collaboration of co-hosts Sen. Gene Yaw and Rep. Joe Hamm, and their respective staffs, for coordinating this wonderful opportunity for veterans and constituents in our area to receive on-site support from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and state services from our three legislative offices,” Flick said. “I look forward to interacting directly with as many attendees as possible and invite everyone to introduce themselves to Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who will be on-hand throughout the day helping people learn about their unclaimed property.”

The legislators noted that one out of every ten Pennsylvania residents has unclaimed property being held by the Pennsylvania Treasury. Unclaimed property originates from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, old insurance policies and forgotten safe deposit boxes.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their photo ID with them, to ensure they can be served appropriately. Registration for the event is encouraged, but not required. Please visit Senator Yaw’s website at www.SenatorGeneYaw.com or call (570) 322-6457 to register. Walk-ins are welcome.
