HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-83) today announced $3,530,543 in state funding has been awarded to four projects in Lycoming and Union Counties through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
The awards were considered at today’s CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority’s Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS), the Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Water Projects Program (H2O), and the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program (PACR).
“The funds approved today are valuable investments that are good for our citizens and good for our environment,” Sen. Yaw said. “I was pleased to work with Rep. Flick and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”
“In the business community, we often hear the phrase, ‘location, location, location’ when it comes to ensuring success, and I will argue it’s equally important to emphasize, ‘infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure.’ We simply cannot maintain or draw more businesses to our community or provide exceptional quality of life to our residents without updating our water and sewer services and capabilities,” Rep. Flick said. “Today marks a triumph for our community, as these grant dollars dedicated to infrastructure projects in the 83rd district are critical to our community’s success today and in the future.”
“I am thankful for the collaboration and support of Sen. Gene Yaw and his staff, as together we were able to advocate for over $3.5 million in grant awards in Lycoming and the northern part of Union County,” Rep. Flick continued. “Only a handful of projects in rural communities received the grant award amount we did, and I’m incredibly pleased and grateful that the Commonwealth agrees with Sen. Yaw and me that our area is worthy of this level of investment – especially for our essential services.”
The largest awards went to the Williamsport Sanitary Authority, which received $3,000,000 in H2O funding for its Sanitary Sewer Bloomingrove Road Environmental Protection Project. The Authority also received $423,725 in SWS funding for its Bull Run Pump Station Safety Improvements Project.
“Funding for these critical water and sewer projects benefit the residents of Williamsport with improvements to essential public infrastructure which is used by all on a daily basis,” Michael Miller, Williamsport Sanitary Authority and Municipal Water Authority Executive Director, said. “The Authority appreciates Sen. Yaw and Rep. Flick’s advocacy.”
The remaining projects include:
Lycoming County
- Lycoming County Historical Society – $16,818 in PACR funding for the History Museum or Historical Site located in the City of Williamsport.
Union County
- Gregg Township Municipal Authority – $90,000 in SWS funding for its Wastewater Treatment Plant Equipment Upgrade.
The grants are funded from multiple sources with the largest being federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money appropriated for recreation and conservation as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.
