Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority Granted $900,000 for CNG Project(HARRISBURG) Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming, is commending the Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority (NTSWA) for being awarded a $900,000 grant under the state’s Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program. Yaw said Northern Tier’s project proposes to replace four older diesel powered refuse and recycling trucks with four Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks and to construct a CNG refueling station at a landfill location in Bradford County. "I am extremely pleased that Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority has taken the initiative to apply for this grant," Yaw said. "This will help to promote the use of alternative fuels and encourage environmental protection." He said the project will reduce the consumption of diesel fuel by displacing it with domestic natural gas. According to information in the application, an annual diesel reduction of 52,000 gallons per year is expected. It will offer a cost-effective method of fueling vehicles, as well as being environmentally friendly. "Once the CNG refueling station is constructed and it is operating, Northern Tier will open it for use to other businesses with diesel powered fleets in the area," Yaw said. NTSWA authority will match this grant funding with $993,144 in local funds. | ||
