Various Grants Announced by State Agencies

(Williamsport)  Two state departments have made a variety of grant announcements to municipalities and groups in the 23rd Senatorial District according to Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming. 

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced several Sewage Facilities Planning Grants.  These grants, according to DEP will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the cost of preparing the official sewage plan and revisions as required by Act 537. 

The following awards have been made: 

  • Williamsport Sanitary Authority, Lycoming County, $281,892.63;
  • Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, $28,162.84;
  • South Williamsport Borough, Lycoming County, $27,902.33;
  • Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, $25,469.36 and;
  • The Valley Joint Sewer Authority, Bradford County, $16,948.38. 

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) recently announced grants from the Community Conservation Partnership Program.  They include: 

  • The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, $160,000 to provide technical assistance to local partners, manage system-wide initiatives and implement the Susquehanna Strategic Action Plan.
  • The SEDA-Council of Governments, $57,000 for Tree Vitalize Metros to implement a tree cover program in Centre and Lycoming Counties on publicly owned properties through the implementation of a sub-grant program to include tree purchase, planting, management, education and technical assistance.
  • The Lumber Heritage Region of PA, $300,000 to coordinate Conservation Landscapes Initiatives in the PA Wilds including implementing 2010 and 2011 work plans, working with local governments to achieve the stewardship goals, identifying and building community support for critical trail connections, supporting the PA Wilds Futures Network and developing a new youth engagement initiative for high school students.
  • The Endless Mountains Heritage Region, $62,500 to provide technical assistance in the development of Open Spaces Greenways and Outdoor Recreation Plans for several counties, assist organizations with capacity building, strategic needs assessment, project planning and management; coordinate the redesign and publication of an enhanced regional Heritage Trail Guide and develop water trail podcasts for the Upper North Branch of the Susquehanna River.
  • The Sullivan County Recreational Association, $20,000 to determine the feasibility of developing a multi-purpose recreational facility.
  • New Milford Borough, Susquehanna County, $80,000 for the rehabilitation and further development of Blue Ridge Park to include restoration of a riparian buffer of Salt Lick Creek, construction of a comfort facility/concession stand, walkway, installation of fencing, lightings and utilities, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements and;
  • The Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority, $350,000 for work leading to the development of the Lewisburg Area Rail Trail from Mifflinburg to Lewisburg.
