Yaw Announces Latest Round of PENNVEST Funding for 23rd District(HARRISBURG) Five applications from the 23rd Senatorial District will receive funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) according to Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock. South Creek Township will receive a construction grant for $1,175,937 to assist in building its wastewater collection and treatment facilities. "For many years, this small, rural community has been working with DEP and various state and federal agencies to identify potential funding sources to build a wastewater treatment plant," Yaw said. "The local officials should be commended for their determination in solving an issue that will improve the water quality in two different areas of the township." According to Yaw, the grant to South Creek Township was money provided from the federal stimulus money, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Twenty-one construction jobs are expected to be created for this project. Also, in Bradford County, Standing Stone Township will receive $330,000 in grants from PENNVEST to address two road slides in into Rummerfield Creek. The loans are expected to be paid back to PENNVEST in 20 years. The Sullivan County Conservation District will also receive an ARRA grant for $870,642. These funds will be used for the Sullivan Dirt and Gravel Headwater Protection Program. Twenty construction jobs are expected to be created with this grant. "Many environmentally sensitive creeks in Sullivan County are affected by the sedimentation run-off from the county’s many dirt roads. This money will be used to stabilize these gravel roads," Yaw said. "This action affects the quality of streams that flow into Lycoming County and ultimately into the Susquehanna." "Finally, I am pleased to announce that the Montrose Restoration Committee, Inc. will receive an ARRA grant for $5,945, to assist in its Phase I of its Streetscape Program," Yaw said. Yaw said this project includes will include planting 20 new trees on both sides of Public Avenue and one block of Maple Street in Montrose. | ||
