Lewisburg to Receive Grant to Combat Underage Drinking

(HARRISBURG)  Sen. Gene Yaw announced today that the Borough of Lewisburg will receive a grant from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to support its efforts to reduce underage drinking.

Yaw said the grant of $11,405 will support borough officials and police as they seek to combat drinking by young people through education and enforcement.

"Alcohol is the leading cause of death for people under age 21, and the number one drug abuse problem for that same age group," Yaw said. "This grant will help to fund programs and services to deter underage drinking and keep kids from becoming a statistic."

Yaw said the Bureau of Alcohol Education received a total of 128 applications from across the Commonwealth.

The 23rd District Senator encourages municipal officials and other officials of other non-profit organizations across his region to contact his district office for additional information on this program and other grant programs that may be available through the State of Pennsylvania.
