Yaw Announces Grants to Local Organizations

(WILLIAMSPORT) - Senator Gene Yaw has announced the following grants to municipalities and organizations in his Senatorial District.

• Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority, $8,396.69 from the Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant program.
• YWCA of Northcentral Pennsylvania, $118,484 to be used to add a solar thermal supplement and high-efficiency pool dehumidification system.
• Lewis Township, Lycoming County, $40,000 to be used for the construction of two projects to alleviate erosion threats of Lycoming Creek to house foundations.
• Susquehanna Health, one million dollars through the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority.  This money will be used to install a 2MW natural gas fuel cogeneration unit as part of its Central Utility Plant Upgrades and replacement.
• Sayre Borough, Bradford County, $65,000 to be used to construct an emergency operations center.
• Canton Borough, Bradford County, $6,180 recycling Performance Grant Program.  This is based on the 313.6 tons recycled for 2007.
• Towanda Borough, Bradford County, $3,382 based on 231.9 tons recycled for 2007.
• Troy Borough, Bradford County, $697 based on 66.3 tons recycled for 2007.
• The Lycoming County Planning Commission, $120,000 to be used to develop an initiative to address Chesapeake Bay requirements through an established county-based effort.
• The City of Williamsport, $31,250 to be used to purchase and install gate operators for the Hepburn Street pump station and finally;
• Sayre Borough, $19,000 to purchase an emergency generator, a satellite system, a telemetry unit and a multi-line phone system.

"As you can see there are a variety of grants being awarded across the district," Yaw said.  "Some are big, while others are small, but regardless, it is money coming back into the 23rd District."

"My staff travels throughout the district on a regular basis, and I would encourage you, if you need assistance to discuss requests with my staff to see what may be available to help your organization’s efforts in funding a particular project."
