Senator Gene Yaw Sworn into Office
Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) was sworn into his first term of
office during ceremonies today at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. Yaw, who was
elected to the Senate seat in November 2008, was administered the oath of office
by State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Saylor while family and friends looked on.
"I'm really looking forward to
getting to work on important issues that will affect our area, including
improving our job climate, holding down spending and taxes, and ensuring that
state government is open and accountable to the people it represents," Yaw
said. "We face difficult times in Pennsylvania, with a faltering economy and a
significant projected revenue shortfall, so we all need to work together to
ensure that our area is about to achieve the maximum benefits from the gas
industry."
Yaw was recently appointed chairman of the Senate Urban
Affairs and Housing Committee. He will also serve as a member of the
Environmental Resources and Energy, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Law and Justice, and Rules
and
Executive Nominations committees.
"I'm very pleased with my committee assignments,
particularly Environmental Resources and Energy and Agriculture and Rural
Affairs, because both will have a major impact on the area I represent," Yaw
said. "Committees are the real workhorses of the Senate, where legislation is
introduced and policy developed, so I'm looking forward to getting involved in a
wide range of issues." |
